Back in style

Upon the death of Fernand Point on 5th March 1955, there may have been those who believed that the empire would collapse.
This would, however, have been an underestimation of ‘Mado Point’,
with her aristocratic bearing and poker-face: she adopted the motto of William of Orange, Je Maintiendrai (‘I Shall Uphold’).

31 years later, Madame Point died quietly in her own La Pyramide, surrounded by her loyal staff. Marie José Eymin, her adopted daughter, succeeded her for around a year before the establishment was sold to a Parisian property group; and after six months of operation, closed for refurbishment from March 1988 to May 1989.

During this closure, the restaurant – just as in 1925 – was
entirely rejuvenated. History repeated itself,
and a piece of adjoining land belonging to the Seguin family had to be bought for the construction of a 24-room hotel,
a new restaurant dining room and a new garden… but since the establishment had lost its staff, its reputation in the guidebooks and its clientèle, it was obliged to start ‘from scratch’.

The goal was clear: to restore the shine to this great name, but at the same time to look forward with the new millennium in mind.
Many well-respected names were consulted with a view to managing this new property, but all initially refused.
